SIMAC 50th Edition: A Celebration of Innovation and Excellence

SIMAC Tanning Tech, the Italian exhibition of machinery and technology for the footwear, leather goods and tanning industries, attracted more than 9,000 visitors.
The 50th edition of SIMAC Tanning Tech, a leading exhibition for the footwear, leather goods, and tanning industries, concluded with resounding success. Held from September 17th to 19th in Milan, Italy, the event attracted over 9,000 attendees from around the globe, showcasing the enduring appeal and global reach of the Italian manufacturing sector.
With 44% of attendees and 26% of exhibitors hailing from outside Italy, SIMAC Tanning Tech reinforced its position as a premier international platform for industry professionals. The event highlighted the sector’s adaptability and innovation in an increasingly competitive global landscape. The synergy between SIMAC Tanning Tech and Lineapelle further enhanced its attractiveness.

Assomac General Manager Agostino Apolito praised the event’s success, emphasizing its role as a meeting point for the global industry and the importance of innovation. The strong international participation and focus on new technologies demonstrated the sector’s readiness to address challenges such as sustainability, digitalization, and efficiency.
In addition to showcasing technological advancements, SIMAC Tanning Tech facilitated discussions on pressing industry topics. These included innovation in the leather, footwear, and leather goods supply chains, the integration of AI in the footwear industry, and the digital transformation of manufacturing processes.
The ‘Un giorno da protagonista’ project, curated by Art Director Barbara Ricchi, showcased Italian excellence in leather processing machinery through live demonstrations, networking opportunities, and a combination of art and technology.

While exports experienced an overall decline in the first half of 2024, the tannery machinery sector demonstrated resilience with a 6.77% increase in foreign orders. Despite this, the sector faces challenges in certain markets due to its concentration in just 10 countries.
Despite the challenges, ASSOMAC President Maria Vittoria Brustia remains optimistic about the future of the sector. She highlights the quality of Italian technologies and the industry’s ability to innovate and adapt to global challenges. ASSOMAC also calls for government support to promote and protect the “Made in Italy” label in the increasingly competitive international market.
The next edition of SIMAC Tanning Tech is scheduled for September 23rd to 25th, 2025. This successful 50th edition has set a high bar for future events, showcasing the industry’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and global excellence.
